Songs of Absence is a dance piece by choreographer Anna Konjetzky that delves into themes of invisibility and the unspoken from a feminist perspective. The work examines elements that are missing, overlooked, or suppressed, questioning whether such absences stem from an unwillingness or inability to perceive them.
Structured like a musical album, the piece comprises multiple "songs," each functioning as an individual segment within the larger performance. This format allows for a polyphonic exploration of absence, with each performer's voice and movement contributing to a complex, multi-layered composition.
The music blends electronic elements, electric guitar sounds, and techno influences, creating a dynamic soundscape that complements the choreography. The integration of these musical styles enhances the thematic exploration of absence and presence, providing an auditory experience that mirrors the physical movements on stage.
